Munich Christkindlmarkt
Münchner Christkindlmarkt am Marienplatz
20 November – 24 December 2026
Source: muenchen.de · read 2 November
The municipal market on Marienplatz and the Rindermarkt. Munich has published a longer 2026 season than its old habit: 20 November to 24 December, and closed on 22 November.
The season
Monday to Saturday 10:00–21:00, Sundays 10:00–20:00, Christmas Eve 10:00–14:00.
Closed all day on Totensonntag, 22 November 2026. The city says the stalls reopen on Monday 23 November.
What to notice
- The city says this year’s market has more than 130 goods and food stalls, and that the earlier start — the Friday before Totensonntag — is new.
- A Kripperlmarkt is listed in front of Alter Peter.
- The city lists a Krampus run on Sunday 13 December 2026, 15:00–17:00.
What to eat and drink
Unless a sentence names its source, these are specialities associated with the city, not a confirmed menu for 2026. Stall lists change every season.
- The city page is about the market’s dates more than its menu. Munich’s market food is the usual one: sausages, roasted almonds, Lebkuchen, Glühwein.
- Treat any particular stall name you remember from a previous year as retired until you see it.
Planning notes
- Do not travel for 22 November. The city is explicit that every stall is shut.
- Marienplatz is also the city’s main interchange. Leave the square before the evening commute if you want room to stand.
- Sundays close an hour earlier than other days.
Getting there
S-Bahn and U-Bahn to Marienplatz, which is under the square. Munich Hauptbahnhof is two stops away.
When to go
The week of 23 November, after the closure, and before the first Advent weekend fills the square.
