The market on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz. Basel Tourism publishes 26 November to 23 December 2026, and a separate village on Theaterplatz that runs into January.

Basler Wienachtsdorf at Theaterplatz is listed separately: 26 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, from 11:00, to 22:00 Monday–Thursday, 23:00 Friday and Saturday, and 21:00 on Sunday.

The season

Daily 11:00–20:30. On 23 December the Barfüsserplatz market closes at 20:00 and Münsterplatz at 18:00, according to basel.com.

What to notice

  • Basel Tourism describes about 150 wooden chalets between the two squares.
  • If you need a market after 23 December, it is the Theaterplatz village, not Barfüsserplatz, that the page extends.

Unless a sentence names its source, these are specialities associated with the city, not a confirmed menu for 2026. Stall lists change every season.

  • basel.com names Basler Läckerli, raclette, waffles, mulled wine and grilled sausages.

Planning notes

  • Münsterplatz to the Pfalz terrace is a short walk and the view the tourism page suggests. Do it before the square closes on the last day.
  • Switzerland is expensive. The market will not be the exception.

Getting there

Basel SBB is about 15 minutes on foot or a short tram from Barfüsserplatz.

When to go

A weekday after 26 November, in the late afternoon, so you can walk up to the Münster while it is still open.
