Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt

Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt

27 November – 24 December 2026

The market the city itself calls a little town of wood and cloth, on the Hauptmarkt. The 2026 season is published on the market’s own site: 27 November to 24 December.

The season

Daily 10:00–21:00. On the opening day, 27 November, the market runs 10:00–22:00, with the prologue at 17:30. Christmas Eve, 24 December, 10:00–14:00.

What to notice

  • The official English site describes wooden stalls, handmade decoration, gingerbread and Spekulatius.
  • The city portal says the opening prologue on 27 November 2026 is spoken by Christkind Nora Falk, and that the market pauses during the ceremony from 17:30 to 18:00.
  • The same city page lists Kinderweihnacht on Hans-Sachs-Platz from 27 November to 30 December 2026, which runs longer than the main market.

What to eat and drink

Unless a sentence names its source, these are specialities associated with the city, not a confirmed menu for 2026. Stall lists change every season.

  • Nuremberg Lebkuchen and Spekulatius are named on christkindlesmarkt.de.
  • Nuremberg bratwurst and roasted almonds are the city’s long-standing market fare. Treat them as tradition, not as a guaranteed 2026 stall.
  • Glühwein is the ordinary hot drink of a Franconian market. The spice mix changes with the stall.

Planning notes

  • The prologue is at 17:30 on opening day. If you want the square for the speech, be there earlier; the stalls pause for it.
  • Weekday late morning is the civilised hour. Saturday after dusk in mid-December is the one to avoid if you dislike a crowd.
  • The partner-cities market, the city says, stays open only until 23 December.

Getting there

Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof is about a 15-minute walk from the Hauptmarkt, along Königstraße. U-Bahn station Lorenzkirche is closer.

When to go

The first week of December, on a weekday, after the opening weekend and before the schools break up.
